About the 2024 World Rowing Championships (2024 WRCH)
From August 18-25, 2024, St. Catharines is set to welcome the world for the 2024 World Rowing Senior, Under 23 and Under 19 Championships at the historic Royal Canadian Henley Rowing Course. Known for its legacy in hosting major competitions, including two previous World Rowing Championships, the Henley Rowing Course will bring together 2,500 athletes from over 80 countries in what is the biggest and most important World Rowing event of the season.
Why should I volunteer for the 2024 World Rowing Senior, U23 & U19 Championships?
By volunteering for the 2024 WRCH, you will be a part of this Mega Event and have the opportunity to be a part of Niagara rowing history and tradition, form new connections and friends and have a positive impact on the broader Niagara community.  Approximately 750 volunteers will be recruited for the 2024 WRCH.

How do I volunteer with the 2024 World Rowing Senior, Under 23 and Under 19 Championships?
To volunteer, please visit www.stcrowing2024.com and click on our Volunteer Hub. From there, you can click the “Sign Up Now” button. From here you can register to volunteer.  You will be contacted by one of our lead volunteers or our volunteer coordinator to solicit your availability and confirm your shift prior to the event. All volunteers will have an opportunity to participate in an event orientation and meet their committee chair on Thursday, August 8th, 2024, at 7PM. Further details will be distributed closer to event time.

What types of volunteer roles are available with the 2024 World Rowing Senior, Under 23 and Under 19 Championships and how do I apply to volunteer?
There are three different types of volunteer roles available:

  1. Committee Chairs | Leadership Roles: These are volunteers who will help us in the planning stages leading up to the Championships and are a larger time commitment and require availability prior to the start of the Championships.  All leadership positions will require a valid police background check on file prior to the event start date.
  2. Pre-Event Volunteers: Various events will be held from now until the 2024 WRCH where volunteers will be needed. We encourage you to scroll to the bottom of this web page to submit your name and email in order to stay informed about upcoming events through our e-newsletter.
  3. Event Volunteers: These are volunteers who will assist during the actual 2024 WRCH; August 18th – 25th, 2024.  Some volunteer shifts will be required a few days prior and following the 2024 WRCH.
How can I become a Committee Chair?
For the 2024 WRCH, all Committee chairs have been selected. However, in the event a position arises or additional chair positions become available, you are welcome to indicate your interest in this position via your official volunteer registration in January 2024.  These roles typically have strong technical knowledge for their area and are responsible for recruiting, training and managing all volunteers in their functional area.

What are the age requirements?
Volunteers must be at least 16 years of age at the time of volunteer start date.

I have a disability. Can I volunteer with the 2024 World Rowing Senior, Under 23 and Under 19 Championships? Can I volunteer with my aid?
Yes and yes! We welcome people of all abilities to apply for a volunteer position with the 2024 WRCH and we will work with you to determine how we can support you in your role. Please note, if you are volunteering with your aid/caregiver, they too will have to register.

Can I bring my service dog with me?
Yes! We welcome people of all abilities to apply for a volunteer role with the 2024 WRCH and we will work with you to determine how we can support you in your role.

What do I receive as a volunteer?
  • Volunteer Uniform package (items TBD)
  • Daily lunch or equivalent meal and snacks
  • Orientation and role-specific training
  • In addition, if applicable, the opportunity to earn volunteer service hours
  • Complimentary spectator viewing based on off-shift hours and seating availability at Rennie Park
When/Where will I be volunteering?
When registering, you have the opportunity to select your preference for your functional area. Based on your selection(s) and availability, you will be placed (on a best case basis) in the area you have signed up for. Further information related to specific on-site locations and role-specific training will be provided during orientation on Thursday, August, 8th, 2024.

How many hours must I commit by volunteering?
It is appreciated that all volunteers contribute to a minimum of 16 hours over the course of the WRCH.

Do these volunteer hours count towards my High School Volunteering Program?
Yes; 100%. For those eligible students, all worked hours will be properly recorded and authorized for any high school volunteering program. Please be certain to report to your direct supervisor of such reporting requirements prior to your volunteer shifts.

I live outside of the Niagara region, can I still volunteer?
Yes! Please note: All volunteers will be required to register online and are responsible for their own transportation and accommodation arrangements.

I live outside of Canada. Can I still volunteer during the 2024 World Rowing Senior, Under 23 and Under 19 Championships?
Yes!  Please note: All volunteers will be required to register online and are responsible for their own transportation and accommodation arrangements. The St. Catharines World Rowing Organizing Committee is not responsible for arranging any travel documentation including visas.

What is the language requirement to be a volunteer with the 2024 World Rowing Senior, Under 23 and Under 19 Championships?
The 2024 WRCH will endeavour to deliver the event in both official languages, therefore we will be recruiting English speaking and bilingual (English and  French) volunteers.

I do not drive. Can I still volunteer?
Yes! However, please note that all volunteers are responsible for their own transportation arrangements.

Do I need to have special qualifications or experience to volunteer for the 2024 World Rowing Senior, Under 23 and Under 19 Championships?
Certain volunteer positions require certifications or licenses. Depending upon the role, volunteers may be required to submit appropriate documentation. Volunteer postings will include qualification requirements.
